Today we are off on a full day tour arranged by Anne Davis (AKA Redhead). The tour will include Port Vistonas, Makrades, Lakones, Paleokastritsa, Gastouri, Achillion, Kanoni and Corfu town.
Today was a much nicer day than yesterday. Corfu is a very beautiful island and we really had a great day.
Our driver, Christos, was very good..talkative and informative!! I’m sure he explained where we were stopping but I really can’t remember the names of the different stops but please just enjoy the beauty……
We visited the Monastery of Panagia. This byzantine building was constructed in 1228 and reconstructed during the 15th century. As usual, Charlie found some cats….
We next stopped at the Achillion Palace originally designed as a villa for the Empress of Austria. Empress Elizabeth, affectionally called “Sissi’, was a Bavarian princess who married Franz Josef of Austria. She found court life too stiff and formal, so she spent many years traveling. The gardens are filled with flowers, trees and statues in the Italian style and the views from the gardens are magnificent.
On our way back to the ship, we took a short drive thru Corfu Town. It really looked like a pretty interesting town and would like to have spend a little time there.
